At Catalyst:Ed (, we believe your skills and experiences are invaluable and can be leveraged more broadly to help more organizations serve students and families better. If you have strong expertise in one or more areas relevant to K-12 education and an interest in project-based work, we can connect you to organizations that are looking to tap into your expertise for short-term, mission-critical projects.

Note: Project Directors/Partners at consulting firms may apply on behalf of their firm. We do, however, expect the individual to serve as the project lead on any projects matched through Catalyst;Ed.

  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience

Application Process:

  • Online application: Tell us about your skills and experiences and upload your resume.
  • Interview: We will invite all qualified applicants to a video interview with a Catalyst:Ed team member. We will also ask you to provide contact details of three references who know you professionally and can speak to your skills and capabilities. 
  • Professional references: Post-interview, we will connect with your references by phone and email - these conversations help us pinpoint your expertise, understand the contexts that you thrive in and determine whether you're a good fit for our network. 
  • Notification: If you're selected, you'll receive an email welcoming you into the network.

Project Areas:

Projects range in size from large ones for states, districts, national nonprofits and foundations to small ones for schools and charter applicants.

Project types span the diverse needs of education organizations. Examples include: strategic advising, project management, providing interim capacity for early stage projects or unfilled positions, systems design and improvement, research and evaluation, and 1:1 coaching.

Project areas relevant to schools and school districts span:

  • School management and governance: Examples include school start-up and reviews, strategic planning, fundraising, and board development.
  • Human capital management: Examples include job design, recruitment and selection, evaluation, compensation, and personnel policies development and review.
  • Educational program and student support: Examples include curriculum development, instructional improvement, personalized learning, student support services, and special education.
  • Data: Examples include student data systems, data dashboards and analysis, and state reporting.
  • Operations: Examples include facilities, purchasing, finance, food services, and transportation.
  • Other: Examples include legal services, policy research and drafting, marketing and communications, website design, and public relations.

Project areas relevant to nonprofits and foundations span:

  • Organizational development: Examples include defining a vision and mission, crafting a strategic plan and engaging with stakeholders
  • Fundraising: Examples include grantwriting, creating a fundraising plan and earned revenue strategies
  • Governance: Examples include Board assessments and workshops
  • Human capital management: Examples include job design, recruitment and selection, evaluation, compensation, and personnel policies development and review
  • Evaluation: Examples include qualitative and quantitative evaluations, data dashboards and performance management
  • Marketing and communications: Examples include developing a marketing plan and designing and implementing a PR strategy
  • Other: Examples include finance, operations and technology
